And Matt Smith will be doing just that in his role as iconic gay photographer Robert Mapplethorpe. Smith has come a long way since playing the 11th incarnation of Doctor Who, and while we’re not in the business of promoting straight actors playing queer roles, from the preview, it seems as if Smith does the legendary photographer justice.
