LDRs suck—but they can still work out!

#Dating#Love#SexMen#Guys#Gay#Travellong-distance-relationship-gay-love-dating-tips.jpgAlexander Cheves

Most of us know this by now: long-distance relationships suck. As much as you tell yourself you won’t get jealous when you see him post pictures on Facebook with other guys, and as passionately as you promise to call him every night, nothing will prepare you for the lonely nights—especially if you have spent any length of time together.

There are few ways to portray LDRs as pleasant experiences, but there are steps you can take to make them easier until the time comes when you will be back in the same place. Which brings me to my first and most important tip:

graphic

If the time you are going to be apart is open-ended—if there’s no set end date—the long-distance relationship will not survive. You both need something to look forward to, to tick days off your calendar for. Without an end goal, the distance will look overwhelming and endless, an eternity of lonely nights that will eventually not seem worth it, especially when you could be meeting other guys.

graphic

I have a rule: if the person you’re dating wants you to be sexually monogamous, then they have to stay in the same place as you. In other words: no one has the right to call you theirs and only theirs while simultaneously withholding sex from you. To do so is selfish and inconsiderate.

If you’re going to do long distance, you need to be comfortable opening up your sexual boundaries. You can set your own rules for how much you tell each other about the sex you are both having, but I recommend total honesty and full disclosure. Why? Because what you don’t say will sit on your conscience and create needless guilt. You will start to feel ashamed of something that needn’t (and shouldn’t) be shamed.

As a couple, you should encourage and celebrate each other’s sex lives, not stifle them. No one wants to be with someone restrictive, unexciting, or judgmental. If the person you’re dating can’t bear the thought of you sleeping with other people, or if they shame you for it, you have legitimate grounds to question whether or not this is going to work.

graphic

Time differences might keep you from watching the same movie at the exact same time, but try to watch the same movie within the same 24-hour period. Netflix, Hulu, or any other streaming service is the perfect way to do this.

Take a selfie before the movie starts and send it to him. Do whatever cute, cheeky things you can to make it feel more like a shared experience—because it is. Just not in the same location.

graphics

This is true of all relationships, but it especially applies to long distance. You’re going to visit his Facebook page a million times, check his Instagram every night, and have his profile starred as a favorite on Grindr and Scruff. You’re going to get jealous and you’re going to get scared—scared that he doesn’t like you anymore, scared that you’ve been gone too long, or scared that he’s fallen in love with someone else.

You must be able to talk about these feelings without fighting about them. If you keep them to yourself, they will build and boil, and one day you will yell on the phone for no reason and do more harm than good. If he’s a good guy, he will listen and talk about his feelings too—chances are he’s feeling similar things—and the conversation will be a good one. It might be difficult to have, but it will only bring positive results because honesty always brings good.

If he doesn’t listen, gets angry, or dismisses your feelings entirely, you have a fair idea of what kind of person you’re trying to date.

graphics

Sexting is wonderful at any time, but in a long-distance relationship, it is vital. Let him know you still think about him sexually, and that you can’t wait until you guys are naked together again.

This is important. Everybody wants to be seen as sexy, especially by the person they’re dating. When you are apart, it is easy to feel unattractive—there’s no one there to kiss you and touch your butt and tell you that you look good even when you think you look terrible. When you are far apart, remind him often that you think he’s sexy, that his new pictures on Facebook or Instagram are hot, and that you want to do nasty things to him when you’re back together.

graphics

Skype can be the gateway to great sexual experiences, especially if one of you likes to be dominant and the other likes to be submissive. Buy some sex toys, plan a Skype date, and prepare for it like you would prepare for a long night of sex.

Make sure your computer is plugged in. When you are finally video calling, the dominant boyfriend should give instructions and the submissive boyfriend should obey them—on camera. Trust me, it’s a very hot experience and one you’ll want to have again and again.

graphics

It’s a cruel thing to do. If it’s not working, if you’ve met someone else, or if the distance has simply given you time and space to reconsider your relationship, the guy waiting for you deserves to hear the news in person.

Think of long-distance this way: he is holding his breath and waiting to let it out. He is in a bad novel and waiting to get to the end. Whatever analogy you use, the point should be clear: he is waiting to see you again, one way or another.

To break up with him over distance is to completely deny him closure while simultaneously leaving him completely alone to hurt, wonder, and miss you—now in a completely different way. Even if you have to spend a lot of money to fly back for a day and tell him, do it. Some would argue that the distance will help him forget you faster, but this is false—the first thought in his head will be: if you could see him just one more time in person, you would still want to date him. Regardless if this is true or not, the thought will turn to agony, and he will replay in his mind the last thing he said to you and the last time you touched over and over again, understanding it now to be the last time you ever will.

Long-distance relationships are hard, but they are not impossible. Like all relationships, they require intense amounts of communication, honesty, and understanding. Gay culture tends to be hypersexual, which can be both a good and bad thing for long-distance boyfriends. Every long-term gay couple I know that has survived distance and stood the test of time are sexually open to some extent, so if you are able to separate sex from love, and can love him from a distance while allowing his body to find pleasure elsewhere, then you have a better chance. If you can't, the hypersexual side of gay culture will be seen as a threat lurking around every corner and will cause both of you a lot of stress.

And when you are finally together again, make a big deal out of it. Buy a suit. Buy flowers. Spend your first day back together indoors and screw his brains out and kiss him till morning. He deserves that, too!

"I don’t want to be gay. I always imagined myself with a woman and having kids. What’s wrong with me?"

Figuring out and coming to terms with your sexuality can be one of the most difficult and tricky times in the lives of many LGBTQ+ people. Add to that the anxieties and pressures associated with the current global health crisis that has many of us all over the world stuck at home in self-quarantine, and you've got it really rough.

In an emotional letter seeking advice from openly-queer, Chicago Tribune columnist Anna Pulley, an anonymous, self-identifying straight man who goes by the pen name "Bicurious, Bisexual or Turning Gay?" details the struggles he's had with his sexuality since being cooped up at home during the ongoing pandemic.

"...during the coronavirus crisis, I have started to feel more attraction to guys (even when masturbating), although there were also some small signs that I repressed when younger, " 32-year-old BBOTG writes after explaining how he's been in two past relationships with women. "Now, it’s taking me by surprise."

He continues:

"So, I’m asking myself if I’m gay and that’s why I am not interested in a relationship with a girl or if it’s because I have an avoidant attachment style. I never find a girl good enough. Or if it’s just temporary. Or if I’m bisexual and I can deal with that side of me that I don’t really want. I don’t want to be gay. I always imagined myself with a woman and having kids. What’s wrong with me? You can be honest."

Luckily, Pulley had some amazing advice to offer.

"I think it’s important and good and necessary for us to question assumptions we have long held about ourselves, as you’re doing now," she wrote to BBOTG. "I, too, thought I would marry a man and have kids, and neither of those things has happened, and I’m entirely fine with that. More than fine, really."

Pulley then goes on to say that the only way BBOTG can know for sure whether or not he is queer is if he does some exploring and starts dating some men (when it's safe to do so, of course) and that although there will be tough times ahead—"years and years of repression and LGBTQ discrimination have an effect on a person," she points out—it's all going to be worth it, especially if you find something new about yourself to love and celebrate.

She continued:

"...knowing that these dark things were possible, I still couldn’t deny the parts of myself that ached to experience the light. To know the truths that lived in my body way before my conscious mind could begin to fathom them.

I know it’s hard and scary and the world can be lonely and unforgiving, but it’s also epic and beautiful and surprising in ways we can’t imagine until we open our eyes to them. You don’t need a label to do this, BBOTG. You don’t need confidence or certainty or any definitive answers. You only need to be curious and willing."

Wait a minute, are Chilling Adventures of Sabrina co-stars Gavin Leatherwood and Luke Cook actually dating each other?!?!

Welp, if you saw Gavin's Twitter feed recently, you might believe so...

"Just to make it abundantly clear...@lukecoook and I are and have been dating for over a year now," the actor, who plays CAOS' villainous wizard Nicholas Scratch, captioned a picture he shared on Twitter where he can be seen laying beside his shirtless friend. "Here’s a pic the morning after a night of vigorous love making."

Not to be outdone, Luke (who plays Lucifer on Sabrina) shared the same shirtless, "post-love making" pic on his Instagram account with a caption of his own, but this time, denying the dating rumors.

"These rumors are getting OUT OF HAND!" he said, wrangling another CAOS co-star, Sam Corlett, into this weirdly hilarious love-triangle. "Someone photoshopped me into this post-coital picture of @gavinleatherwood and @samcorlett me and Gavin are NOT dating! ughhh."

While this all obviously just a joke (Gay Times points out that Luke is currently engaged to a woman), that didn't stop some stans—who have been shipping the two together for a while now—from having the time of their lives in the comments:

For now, this just looks like another classic case of queer-baiting. Oh well...a girl can still dream/ship, right?!?!

You may know Joey Pollari most from his acting—he's starred in favorites like the super popular 2018 queer rom-com Love, Simon and ABC's critically-acclaimed anthology series American Crime—but under the stage name Odd Comfort, the openly gay, 26-year-old old is also making his mark on the world as a singer-songwriter with the release of his debut single "Fickle."

"I knew I needed a long song on this record because a lot of the record is about loss, and I wanted to make a love song and try and trace specific moments throughout the song and make a love song ultimately about desire," he said about the dark, moody, sensual track. "And create this space where it's really intimate. The vocals are really close and it feels like it's sung to you, both of us, in the same room, one to one."

About his upcoming full-length album About Men, Pollari also told PRIDE

"It's about three men in particular. Three men that I lost. A lover. A friend, to life, just life circumstances. And then my father, who passed away three years ago. I wanted to make a record to somehow come to terms with the men in my life. Both specifically and generally and see the patterns between those three people and try and unify them in certain songs and then also just direct some certain songs. Trying to find a release of some sort about those men without coming to any huge glaring conclusions, because life doesn't really give us that often."

"It feels good to add a voice," Pollari said about being part of the current wave of out, queer artists who actually get to talk about love and identity in their music. "There's so many people, queer artists that I grew up watching, even unknowingly. You know, you see these people and later in life, finding out that they're queer. To start that journey of joining that has been crucial. And to offer my own perspective on it and been influenced by so many incredible people."

"Fickle" is available on Apple Music, iTunes, Google Play, and wherever you stream music. Pollari is also donating 15 percent of proceeds from the track's profits to ActBlue's aggregate bail-out fund!

Gay Dating Apps Removed Ethnicity Filters—Is It a Meaningless Gesture?

Getting rid of the ethnicity filter is in no way fighting racism. It's doing the bare minimum.

#Dating#Sex#Technology#NewsMen#Guys#Gay#Bisexual#FirstPersongrindr-scruff-jackd-ethnicity-filter-gay-dating-apps-hookup-racist-discrimination.jpgTaylor Henderson

After years of being called out for discrimination by Black and POC users, gay dating apps Grindr, Scruff, and Jack'd have pledged to remove the ethnicity filters on their applications as dedications to "fight racism."

In light of worldwide protests calling for justice and change for the Black people who have died at the hands of police brutality, companies and brands are publically doubling down on being anti-racist, donating to good causes, and looking internally to end discriminatory practices from the inside out.

Grindr, the largest gay dating app in the world, released a statement on Monday saying, "We stand in solidarity with the #BlackLivesMatter movement and the hundreds of thousands of queer people of color who log in to our app every day."

"We will continue to fight racism on Grindr, both through dialogue with our community and a zero-tolerance policy for racism and hate speech on our platform. As part of this commitment, and based on your feedback, we have decided to remove the ethnicity filter from our next release."

Ethnicity filters on Grindr allowed users to filter out and edit the profiles that showed up on their phones based on their preferred race.

Scruff and Jack'd quickly followed suit with an announcement of their own that promised to "address racism and unconscious bias across our apps." They're also giving donations to Color of Change and the Marsha P. Johnson Institute.

If you're a person of color using gay dating apps, you've most likely come across profiles with phrases like "No Blacks", "No Asians", or "Latino preferred." Many of us have been called slurs alongside other verbal assaults. And recent studies are showing how these apps are linked to low self-worth and depression among people of color who experience this kind of discrimination.

This goes hand-in-hand with conversations about sexual racism, when internalized biases about a group of people inform an individual's dating preferences. "I'm not racist, it's just a preference" is a common phrase uttered by people attempting to avoid any kind of reflection on their own biases. On the flip side of that, some people use ingrained stereotypes to, for example, group all black men together as hypersexual.

There are Black nerds, athletes, writers, musicians, hippies, tops, bottoms, verses, and so many shades of people who all have wildly different experiences, vibes, and looks. All Black people are not the same, so when someone says they "don't want to date Black people" or expresses disappointment when their BBC fantasy fetish doesn't come true, it proves that they think we are.

But it shouldn't be the responsibility of people of color to break this down for aggressors. While all three of the apps now have zero-tolerance policies and racism doesn't run quite as rampant as it used to, people have been complaining about the obviously-discriminatory ethnicity filter for years. Instead of removing it when people first began calling it out in 2015 and 2016, Grindr just made it a paid feature. It's no wonder POC don't have much faith in their practices.

At least they're trying? In 2018, Grindr launched its Kindr initiative, an inclusive campaign attempting to find solutions for discrimination on the app. According to Out, Kindr fizzled out after the app's editorial team, INTO, disbanded in 2019.

And with the ethnicity filters disabled, many POC are expressing another worry: with them gone, will it expose my profile to racists who can potentially subject me to more abuse? It's hard to say if this will be the case, and it looks like we'll just have to wait and see.

Let's be honest, removing the ethnicity filter is in no way fighting racism. It's doing the bare minimum in disallowing people to openly discriminate.

If these apps want to actively "fight racism" instead of passively, they need to put in the work, share resources, start sexual racism conversations with users, and prioritize the safety of the black and POC users on their apps. The zero-tolerance policies in place are just the start.

Although it was previously reported that cult-favorite TV series Lucifer's upcoming fifth season would be its last, stans of the fantasy-comedy show now have something new to be hopeful for: a sixth season.

Yup, according to an exclusive report from TVLine, the show's dreamy lead actor Tom Ellis is totally on-board to reprise the titular role of Lucifer Morningstar for a sixth round, and he and the Netflix series' showrunners are currently still in negotiations for a triumphant return. Though contract negotiations came to a halt in April of this year, CinemaBlend is reporting that issues are being resolved and a future sixth season of Lucifer is most likely going to happen!

Netflix has yet to confirm these reports, but we'll be optimistic and take what we can get! Especially since it would be such a bummer to lose one of the very few canonically bisexual male characters TV has to offer

More of our bi king Lucifer Morningstar on our screens?! Hell yes!

Seasons 1-4 of Lucifer are currently streaming on Netflix, with season 5 set to premiere sometime later this year.

Electrocumbia singer and record producer Raymix is publicly opening up about his sexuality—and officially coming out as gay.

"So many dreams do not fit in a damn closet. I'm officially saying it to the universe: I am Edmundo and I am gay," the Mexican artist, whose real name is Edmundo Gómez Moreno and who burst one the music scene back in 2015 with his hit "Oye Mujer," said in the caption of an Instagram post where he proudly declared his sexuality to the world.

Raymix also took to YouTube to talk more about his decision to come out and some of the challenges he faced to get to where he is—including people in the music industry who told him that he should still stay in the closet and keep his queerness under wraps.

"Can you believe that in 2020, there are people in the industry who told me not to do this video? That I should stay quiet and pretend to be the person I am not because I wouldn't be successful," he said in his YouTube vlog, according to a translation from Billboard. "They told me that the audience is not ready for an artist who sings cumbia or regional Mexican music [to come out as gay]. With so much pride today, I want to tell you that I'm gay. And if you ask me what will change after this message, the answer is: nothing."

Moreno continued:

"I've been wanting to say this for a long time and I'm happy to finally be able to say it because it isn't easy. I am more free and happier than ever. I will continue to take cumbia to different parts of the world."

Welcome to the family, Raymix! Watch his emotional coming out video below!

It's been a busy day for celebrity coming outs—and we couldn't be happier about it!

In an emotional video message posted to his Instagram account, Grammy-nominated, Spanish singer-songwriter Pablo Alborán publicly opens about his sexuality, and how he is coming out as a proud gay man.

"We need to reconsider our lives, careers, what does and doesn’t make us happy," he says in the beginning of his Instagram video, reflecting on the solemn state of the world and current affairs. "I think that we often forget about the love that unites us and makes us stronger."

He continued:

"Today, I want my voice to be louder and for it to have more value and weight. I’m here to tell you that I am homosexual and it’s okay. Life goes on, everything will remain the same, but I’m going to be a little happier than I already am."

Known mostly for his 2010 hit "Solamente Tú," Alborán has amassed a large, worldwide fanbase. At the time of reporting, the 31-year-old artist has nearly 4.5 million YouTube subscribers and 5.3 million Instagram followers and has also been nominated multiples times at both the Grammy and Latin Grammy awards.

In his coming out, Alborán also talked about how he hopes being visible will help closeted queer people who don't come from accepting backgrounds in their own journey of self-discovery.

"There are so many people that did not have the same experience I did," he said. "That’s why today, without fear, I hope I can make somebody’s journey easier with this message. But above all, I do this for me."

Congrats, Pablo! Welcome to the family!

Will Captain Kirk Be Bisexual in a New 'Star Trek' Series?

CBS is apparently "toying with the idea" of the beloved Star Trek character being a part of the LGBTQ+ community.

Do our eyes deceive us? Is there hope that a bisexual Captain Kirk will be gracing our TV screens in a new, upcoming Star Trek series from CBS??!? Well, if the rumors and online buzz are anything to go by, then maybe!

According to a tweet from writer and TV insider Daniel Richtman, the network is apparently "toying with the idea" of the iconic character being bi in the recently-announced series Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.

Formally revealed last month for CBS's All Access streaming service, Strange New Worlds is an upcoming addition to the Star Trek universe that serves as a sequel to the queer-inclusive Discoveryand will "follow Captain Pike (Anson Mount), Science Officer Spock (Ethan Peck), and Number One (Rebecca Romijn) in the decade before Captain Kirk boarded the U.S.S. Enterprise, as they explore new worlds around the galaxy," the show's official description reads. The Captain Kirk character is set to make appearances in Strange New Worlds, and according to Richtman, he might be bisexual.

Although it's just a rumor at this point, considering all of the progress recent Star Trek titles (namely Discovery and Picard) have made in recent years regarding LGBTQ+ representation, and the longtime media franchise's already queer AF history, it wouldn't be too far-fetched for showrunners to include queer characters within the confines of Strange New Worlds.

And it's also safe to say a lot of queer Trekkies would totally be here for a bi Kirk...

Even though nothing hasn't been confirmed yet, it's okay for us to be excited and maybe, possibly freak out a little, right???

The CW's alien-themed, sci-fi drama series Roswell, New Mexico has been really winning over LGBTQ+ fans with its resident queer couple Malex (that's Michael (played by Michael Guerin) and Alex (played by Tyler Blackburn, who came out as queer last year) for all the newbies out there) but according to showrunner Carina Adly MacKenzie, one of the pilot episode's most beloved moments—an emotional kiss between the two heartthrobs—almost didn't make it.

According to some tea spilled during a recent interview with Digital Spy, MacKenzie revealed that she had to fight to keep the queer kiss in the series pilot's final airing because she wanted viewers to know exactly who Malex is and what the show stands for.

"There was only one time when there was a little bit of pushback," MacKenzie remembered. "Our pilot was really long. Like four minutes too long. One of the suggestions that came through was: 'OK, well, maybe we cut Michael and Alex’s kiss, and we put it in the next episode?' And I said no. Because I felt like it really needed to be very clear in the very first episode who these men are, and what they are to each other."

She continued:

"I didn’t want it to be subtext. I didn’t want it to be something that people were wondering: 'Are they or aren’t they?' You’ve got a straight couple on all the posters. You’ve got a straight couple on all the billboards. I just wanted to make it very clear what our show is, and how inclusive it is."

Considering how often queer characters and relationships are left on the cutting room floor of so many TV and movie titles, seeing a showrunner fight for the integrity of a series and its LGBTQ+ characters is a welcome sight and something the industry definitely needs more of!

And the Malex stans sure are better off because of it!

Roswell, New Mexico was just renewed for a third season! Seasons 1 & 2 are streaming on Netflix and The CW respectively.

The fifth season of cult-favorite fantasy series Lucifer is officially on the horizon!

Netflix, who took over the title from Fox a few seasons back, took to Twitter earlier today to announce that our favorite, devilsh, bi hero Lucifer Morningstar (played by the oh-so-handsome Tom Ellis) will be returning to the small screen for the first half of the fifth season on August 21!

To accompany the season 5, part 1 date reveal, they also blessed us with a video compilation of some of Lucifer's sexiest moments throughout the entire show—and we're definitely not complaining!

The news of Lucifer season 5's release date comes on the heels of renewed hope for viewers and fans that a sixth season of the show will be put into production. Earlier this month, we reported that Ellis was totally on-board to reprise the titular role of Lucifer Morningstar for a sixth round, and he and the Netflix series' showrunners are currently still in negotiations for a triumphant return. Though contract negotiations came to a halt in April of this year, CinemaBlend is reporting that issues are being resolved and a future sixth season of Lucifer is most likely going to happen!

Nothing has been confirmed yet, but hopefully more good Lucifer news is on the way soon! After all, it would be such a shame if we couldn't see more of Tom on our TV sets!!

Seasons 1-4 of Lucifer are currently streaming on Netflix!

You know the old saying,"Ask and you shall receive?" Well trust us, we've been asking for some kind of official confirmation about the sixth season of Lucifer ever since it was rumored that Netflix would indeed be bringing it back, and it looks like all that asking paid off!

The streaming service took to Twitter earlier this morning to confirm that yes, Tom Ellis' Lucifer Morningstar will be gracing our screens for one more final season!

"The devil made us do it," Netflix tweeted, making fun of how everyone thought the show's upcoming fifth season would be its last. "Lucifer will return for a sixth and final season. Like, FINAL final."

And it's a good time to be a Lucifer stan! The news of the cult-favorite Netflix series' season 6 renewal comes on the heels of the reveal for the releasae date of the first half of season 5 (August 21).

Earlier this month, PRIDE reported that Ellis was totally on-board to reprise the titular role of Lucifer Morningstar for a sixth round, and he and the Netflix series' showrunners were currently still in negotiations for a triumphant return. Though contract negotiations came to a halt in April of this year because of some issues that CinemaBlend previously reported on, they are now apparently resolved, because now, Lucifer season 6 is officially on the horizon!

Season 5 of Lucifer premieres August 21 on Netflix!
